The Switzerland-based group of companies have been known to support emerging startups to boost their companies worldwide and this year, eight startup companies from the Philippines will compete for a chance to win an equity up to $500,000. Besides that, the winner will be brought to Switzerland to join the Seedstars World Summit where they will be pitching their startup to an international audience.
Seedstars has helped a lot of companies all over the world since it started. In fact, it has already helped two Filipino startups in funding and expanding their business. The first Filipino to be part of this “startup hall of fame” is Salarium, an end-to-end payroll service that helps in keeping track of the bookkeeping of a company. Another is Acudeen, a startup that helps small businesses with their cash flow. Both of them won the US $500,000 equity prize from Seedstars, the highest prize in the competition.
Since 2016, Seedstars has partnered with Acceler8, a coworking facility in Makati where some Philippine startups from can be found. Seedstars’ partnership with one of the leading coworking facilities in the country has been a great way to promote the very young startup industry in the Philippines to even younger companies in the country. Mikko Barranda, Acceler8’s co-founder and CEO said, “The program [Seedstars] helps actualize ideas that flourish innovation. We are proud to be part of this endeavor knowing that Filipinos have won the competition in the past. Hopefully we can continue to be a venue for them to hold their competition and showcase Filipino ingenuity.”
