First on our list is “About Time” by Richard Curtis, starring Domhall Gleeson and Rachel McAdams. If you’re a fan of romantic films mixed with a little bit of fantasy, this movie is perfect for you. It mixes themes of romance, family, and magic in a beautifully written and filmed movie. As we would describe it, this movie feels like a warm hug from an old friend.

Crazy Rich Asians (2017)

“Crazy Rich Asians” gives us a peek of the life of the crazy rich families from Asia and how they live their lives. This movie is a great relief from the usual all-white cast in rom-coms. This very Asian film can be relatable to most of us, not the crazy rich part, but in terms of expectations when it comes to love and to family. More than the glitz and glamor of being well-off, this film shows us that there are more important things in life than the most expensive jewelry or the latest couture.

13 Going on 30 (2004)

Also known as “Suddenly 30,” “13 Going on 30” is considered a cult classic to many. This film allows you to reminisce about what it is like to be young and eager for tomorrow while at the same time it reminds you of how it feels to be older, wiser, and more full of love. It’s a feel-good classic with loads of lessons about love and maturity.

The Proposal (2009)

“The Proposal” follows the typical story of enemies-turned-lovers. This film is hilarious in both its writing and acting with heartwarming and lovable characters. Though this movie gets very mixed reviews, we still recommend you check it out for the humor.

Celeste and Jesse Forever (2012)

If you’re a fan of Jake Peralta from Brooklyn 99 and Anne Perkins from Parks and Recreation, then this is the crossover you’ve been waiting for! Rashida Jones and Andy Samberg play as best friends turned lovers in this funny yet heartbreaking film. “Celeste and Jesse Forever” brings a fresh and funny take on how love changes and how it affects people over time.

Fun fact: Rashida Jones wrote her own character “Celeste” for this movie.

Set It Up (2018)

“Set It Up” is one of Netflix’s breakout RomComs from 2018. If you’re looking for something romantic and lighthearted without the cheesy cliches and cringey dialogue, this film is perfect! It has the right intensity, pace, and romantic elements while keeping everything fresh and modern. It can be a bit relatable for all the workaholics out there too busy to find love or for the frustrated matchmaker desperate to bring people together.

10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

This film is another cult classic from the 90’s. This film will guarantee to have you gushing over Heath Ledger and his luscious hair with the way that he tries to win Julia Stiles’ heart. Some people might think this film is a tad bit too cheesy, but not for us! This movie is a perfect, light-hearted romance for Valentine’s Day.

Fun fact: This movie frequently references Shakespeare’s play “The Taming of the Shrew.”

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (2018)

This movie is another breakout RomCom from Netflix. “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” is a fun, romantic way to reminisce on our high school days when we had numerous crushes and how we had imagined a future with them. This film tells a beautiful coming-of-age story laced with teenage romance.

The Wedding Singer (1998)

This is one of those films that take a very cheesy concept and just goes hard on it. “The Wedding Singer” goes full-on cheeseball in this RomCom classic. It might sound weird, but Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore have really great chemistry in this film, especially when they share a tender moment while Sandler sings “Grow Old With You.”

Bridesmaids (2011)

Capping off our list is “Bridesmaids,” an irreverently funny movie with very lovable characters. This movie knows how to mix humor and camp with tenderness between friends and loved ones. Although the story that it follows isn’t something new, it manages to keep things fresh with its storytelling and with its very diverse set of characters! “Bridesmaids” is something definitely worth watching, especially with your bestie this Valentine’s Day!
