A Guide For Your Team’s Year-End Planning

As we approach the end of 2021, there are a lot of lessons that we could carry with us to 2022.

We can all agree that 2021 was a year filled with challenges. With the constant rise and fall of COVID-19 cases, rules and restrictions were constantly changing. But through facing these challenges, we’ve learned the necessary steps and skills needed to adapt to different situations.

With 2022 coming up, businesses need to start mapping out their next steps as early as now. Here is a quick guide to your team’s year-end planning!

Review the business’ progress in 2021

Before moving on to the next year, it’s important to look back and analyze what you’ve accomplished over the past year. Were you able to reach the goals that you set at the beginning of 2021? Analyze the different factors that contributed to the results. Whether you’ve succeeded or not, learn what contributed to the results. Understand in detail what made you reach your goals? Or why did you come up short? Knowing the shortcomings of your team is not a bad thing. It will only help you create a better plan for 2022. Build on what worked and adjust what didn’t.

Analyze landscape changes

Over the past year, no matter what industry your business is in, all organizations have experienced some type of change, some even drastically given the restrictions of the pandemic. With this and the number of tech discoveries, it could impact the way your business plans out 2022. Start by thinking about your target audience. Has it changed from last year? Keep in mind that your customers’ expectations and preferences may have changed, which is why businesses need to stay in contact with their community.

Businesses may also use competitors as a basis to see how your business has been faring in the industry. This way, you’ll be able to study the differences for those ranked higher and make necessary adjustments to stay competing for the top spot.

Make new goals for 2022

This is a crucial step to determine the direction of your organization. Set a common goal for the entire organization to work towards. Setting goals before the start of the year will help you find out if you’re making the progress that you want.

When thinking of these goals, make sure they are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely, also known as SMART goals. Track your progress by creating Key Performance Indicators or KPIs. These KPIs will help you ensure that effort is being put in the right places. Discovering the answer to these questions will give you a sense of direction on where to focus to improve your business overall.

Outline strategy and initial actionable steps

This is where the plan comes to life. To reach your goals, you have to put in the work. This means listing down actionable steps to take in order to progress. Create an outline of what you will be doing initially in 2022 to start it off in the right direction. This is the tactical part of your entire plan. Now that you have a plan, make sure to practice transparency and share the plan with all stakeholders and gather insights from each individual.

2022 is coming and we should start planning ahead to bounce back! Follow these tips and you’re sure to have an effective and efficient year-end planning. Remember that this is a collective effort and that everyone will play a part in reaching goals.
