They have already been in a difficult situation before and COVID-19 has only dug these urban poor communities deeper into their problems. These people are often neglected and overlooked especially during times like this. We can help these people by being active in spreading awareness and donating to different initiatives such as Lingap Maralita.
Lingap Maralita is an initiative by various organizations with the goal to help local farmers and urban poor communities. The farmers, who provide us with our daily food, along with other frontline small-scale producers, have come together to help these food-insecure communities get through the pandemic. This initiative supplies communities with fresh produce directly sourced from the farmers which also provides income for them.
Together we can help each other survive this pandemic while keeping our interconnected system of farmers, collaborators, and communities thriving. This is a call for action and solidarity, and to advocate for their rights more than ever. Largely invisible, they are actually the ones who help our society run smoothly and they need our help now!
